ʿAyyūqī is a poet of the fifth/eleventh century credited with the romance entitled Varqa va Gulshāh . We do not know whether ʿAyyūqī is a nisba or a pen name (namely the Persian name for the star Capella, near the Pleiades), and we have no accurate information about the author. A quotation of two verses by ʿAyyūqī in a single manuscript of the Lughat-i Furs ("Persian dictionary")-a work by Asadī Ṭūsī (d. 465/1073), dating from the middle of the fifth/eleventh century-indicates that he also composed
