The Forty Traditions (al-arbaʿūn ḥadīth an ) is a popular genre of ḥadīth collections found throughout the Muslim world from at least the third/ninth century until the present. These works generally consist of forty ḥadīth s, often with some commentary, and frequently refer to a variant of the Prophetic ḥadīth , "Whoever memorises/preserves forty ḥadīth s of my sunna (or, my traditions) for my community, God will raise him among the jurists on Resurrection Day."
