Feridun Ahmed Bey (Ferīdūn Aḥmed Beğ, d. 991/1583), an influential katib (kātib) who served Sokollu Mehmed (Ṣoqullu Meḥmed) Paşa (d. 987/1579), is famous for his historical works. His origins are unknown, but since he identifies himself as the "son of Abdülkadır (ʿAbd al-Qādir)" in his vakfiye (waqfiyya) , Abdülkadir Özcan has suggested that he could have been a devşirme boy. Atai (ʿAṭāʾī, 991-1045/1583-1635) recounts that he was trained in the household of the defterdar ( defterdār , treasurer) Çivizade Abdullah (ʿAbdallāh) Çelebi. In the foreword of his
