Abū Wuhayb Buhlūl b. ʿAmr al-Majnūn al-Kūfī (d. c.190/805) is the prototype of a loosely defined group of people called "wise fools" (ʿuqalāʾ al-majānīn) in the early ʿAbbāsid period. Buhlūl apparently lived during the time of the caliph Hārūn al-Rashīd (r. 170-93/786-809), who is said to have met him during his last pilgrimage to Mecca in 188/803; he is sometimes said to have been the caliph's cousin or brother.
