The Boy Scout movement was founded in 1907-8 by General Sir Robert Baden-Powell as a means to strengthen character and physical fitness among British youths. In the years following its inception, the Scouting movement began to spread to Muslim countries, first through British colonial administrators and Protestant educational institutions. After World War I, Scouts from other countries and communities, including French Catholics, equally became active among Muslims.
