The Besermyans (Russ., Besermiane; standard Tatar, Bisermăn; dialect Tatar, Bochorman) are a small ethnic group living in the Glazov region of the northern Udmurt Republic, in the western Russian Federation. In the Russian census of 2002 the Besermyans were listed as a distinct ethnic group, numbering 3122 persons, a significant decline from the 10,035 recorded in 1926. The ethnic and religious affiliations of the Besermyans are unclear. They are believed to be of Bulghār origin, mixed with southern Udmurts (formerly called Votyaks) (Iskhakov, Tatar ethnic community, 15). Since the
