The Barīd Shāhīs ruled the previously Bahmanī city of Bīdar from the end of the ninth/fifteenth century until 1028/1619. With the disintegration of the Bahmanī sultanate (ruled in the northern Deccan, 748-934/1347-1528), its military commanders-mostly gharībān (foreigners from western and eastern Islamic lands)-rose to prominence.
