Amīr silāḥ ("master of armour") was a rank in the military cursus honorum of the Mamlūk sultanate of Egypt and Syria. Comprehensive studies of this position and others during the sultanate have yet to be done. Responsibilities assigned to this position included that of the supervision of the men-at-arms (silāḥdāriyya) , oversight of the armory (silāḥkhāna) , and the carrying of the sultan's armour when he was on parade. The title does not appear in Ayyūbid sources. It was apparently instituted by al-Ẓāhir Baybars (658-76/1260-7),
