Abū l-Walīd Ismāʿīl b. Muḥammad b. ʿĀmir b. Ḥabīb al-Ḥimyarī (d. c.440/1048) was an Andalusian poet and anthologist, known mainly for his panegyrics to the ʿAbbādid rulers of Seville. His untimely death seems to have awakened the compassionate appreciation of later anthologists and biographers. The son of a wazīr of Seville, Abū l-Walīd was judged, already at the age of seventeen, to be an excellent poet and prose writer, at least according to al-Maqqarī (d. 1041/1632), who also asserts that Abū l-Walīd
