Community Colleges are a popular starting point for Black males entering into higher education. Although Black males are entering into community colleges at high rates, they are graduating at extremely low rates. The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the experiences of Black male students attending a community college and the barriers and facilitators of their persistence. A phenomenological approach to this qualitative study will examine the barriers and facilitators of 10-15 Black male students persisting at a Mid-Atlantic regional community college to identify common themes. Data will be collected through individual semi-structured interviews with the participants to address one primary research question: 1) What are the barriers and facilitators to persistence for Black males at community colleges?
