متن يادداشت
Recent advances in cellular and molecular biology have substantially increased our understanding of normal and abnormal hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular function. In Male Hypogonadism: Basic, Clinical, and Therapeutic Principles, well-known clinicians and basic scientists comprehensively explain and apply these new insights to the treatment of hypogonadal men. The authors focus on the specific causes of gonadotropin deficiency and testicular failure arising from disorders of the brain and the testis and from gene defects and chronic illness. Additional chapters describe the endocrine mechanism for the decline of testicular function with aging, summarize the data supporting the negative impact of environmental toxins on testicular function, and discuss the testicular consequences of exercise and obesity. Also included is an overview of androgen replacement therapy and a chapter devoted to current approaches to stimulating spermatogenesis in gonadotropin-deficient men. Comprehensive and highly practical, Male Hypogonadism: Basic, Clinical, and Therapeutic Principles lucidly interprets a large body of scientific information on male reproductive endocrinology to provide a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, and treatments for disorders that adversely affect testicular function.
