In this dissertation, I analyze the representation of black otherness as an emerging trend within the new wave of Khaleeji literature from a historical and cultural point of view. I contend that the modern Khaleeji novel challenges systems of oppression by looking into the discourse of race and racism, its history and its manifestation in Khaleeji culture. I also look at Khaleeji literature as a unique form of writing that differs from the traditional Arab canon; which academics in the field of postcolonial studies need to be acquainted with. In the final chapter, I look at how Arab and Khaleeji authors discussed slavery in the modern global world by embracing the plight of migrant domestic workers
