The rapid advancement of key communication technologies such as, optical and radio transmission, coding schemes, and switching mechanisms, has meant that communication networks are growing both in scale and speed. The next generation of communication networks will also have an increased usage, as Internet and real time applications are expected to share a significant proportion of the bandwidth. In order to achieve QoS (Quality of Service) and seamless guaranteed transmission whatever the source characteristic, further research into network technologies is essential. This book covers the latest research results presented at P&QNET2000. Topics covered include many aspects of theory, simulation, and implementation related to future developments in the fields of the Internet, mobile computing and communication, performance evaluation methodology, network management and IP applications.
