Globalization refers to an ever-changing process of increasingly global connectedness among peoples and countries caused by the intertwined shifts in technologies, politics, economies, and cultures. Because globalization creates a chain effect of changes, it is also a phenomenon of social and economic influences that impacts individuals and communities throughout the world. In this new era, it is important to educate social work practitioners on how global issues and globalization affect the lives of people so that this knowledge can be used in making practice decisions. Therefore, this pre and post test design study aimed to determine if an education program on the topic of global issues and globalization would increase social workers' knowledge and subsequently influence their beliefs about the importance of global knowledge for social work and influence their intent to incorporate their new knowledge into future practice. This study collected information regarding social workers' beliefs about the importance of global knowledge and their willingness to seek activities to expand their knowledge on global issues. The researcher designed and offered a continuing education course as the intervention to test how knowledge influences social work practitioners' beliefs and practice decisions. A total of 32 participants completed the course which was offered three times in a traditional face-to-face format and once as a web-based format for the duration of one month. Pre and post-course data gathered from the Social Work Practitioner Globalization Survey were used to address three hypotheses which examined participants' knowledge, beliefs, and future intentions. The results of this study were significant. These significant findings provide a basis of support for professional education on globalization and global issues that is useful for social work professionals. The known usefulness of such content also helps social work educators to justify and plan curricula that include globalization and global issues as major curriculum components. This study provides significant implications for social work education, practice, research, and policy that focus on how to encourage social workers to update their knowledge on global issues and concerns.
