SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
Objectives: Despite the legal and moral sanctions against infidelity and reported negative attitudes, the ubiquity of infidelity in our country is difficult to deny. There are a vast number of magazine articles, news stories, and film shows that deal with the subject. The main goal of the present research is to recognize the fundamental factors of marital Infidelity in order to develop prevention programs or clinical treatment of couples and families who are challenged with infidelity. Method: This study adopts a qualitative approach which is beneficial for exploring the in-depth meanings that individuals attach to their relationships. I decided to employ the Grounded Theory Method, because the purpose of the study was to obtain a thorough and in-depth understanding of extramarital relationships. The population covered in this project were married persons who were actually experienced in marital infidelity. The sample used in this study consisted of 40 married men and 36 women engaged in marital infidelity. Interviews were conducted over the course of 8 month, commencing on August, 2011, and concluding on march, 2012. The present study will be limited to only sexual infidelity Findings : Demographic information, such as age, length of marriage, education, occupation, age when married and number of children was collected. Majority of the male participants had permissive attitudes toward infidelity. Women are less satisfied with their marriage than men based on these findings. so, marital dissatisfaction is a stronger factor for women who engage in infidelity, but individual factors may be more important for males. The association between relationship satisfaction and infidelity can depend on other variables. Results: Majority of women who engaged in infidelity reported being in unhappy marriages. Not only those who are dissatisfied with their marriage seeking extramarital partners but that other factors, such as opportunity, may be involved. Men who have engaged in infidelity revealed lower levels of sexual satisfaction. So, the relationship between sexual satisfaction is stronger for men. Teaching social skills and raise the awareness can be very effective in preventing of marital infidelity. Key words: unfaithfulness, extramarital relationships, Grounded Theory, marital infidelity, qualitative method University of
