SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
Introduction: It seems necessary to get a treatment regimen for immediate improvement in the patients with non specific chronic low back pain. Although several treatment programs have been suggested for patients with chronic low back pain so far, most of the proposed treatment programs are long-term protocols Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a supervised lumbar stabilizing exercises on non specific chronic low back pain in order to use in clinical practice.Materials and Methods: In this Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) design, a sample of convenience of 32 patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain were randomly assigned to two groups including control (N=16, mean age=24.12 2.55) and stabilization exercise (N=16, mean age=25.93). All exercise group patients received 4 week daily treatment sessions. Control group receive no treatment. Independent variable was the type of treatment and dependent variables were clinical signs and symptoms, trunk muscle strength and endurance, postural control indices, lumbar lordosis, lumbar range of motion and functional disability. Results: Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences in anthropometric characteristics and quantitative and qualitative variables before treatment between two groups. After treatment, the results showed no significant different between pre and post test parameter in control group patients (p>0.05). In stabilization exercise group; the results showed a significant increase in endurance of flexor (p=0/00) and extensor muscles (p=0.005). Overall (p=0.01) , anterior-posterior(p=0.03) and medial- lateral (p=0.01) postural indices in double leg eyes opened situation were significantly decreased ). Pain (p=0.01) (p<0.05) was decreased significantly. Oswestry (p=0.001) and Quebec (p=0.004) functional disability scores were improved after stability training exercise. The limit of stability test (function(p=0.00) and time(p=0.00)) also improved. Conclusions: supervised functional lumbar stability exercises might decrease pain and improve muscular function, postural control and functional disability in patients with non specific chronic low back pain. Keywords: Stability exercises, Supervised, Chronic low back pain, Biodex Stability System
