At the end of the sessions two groups completed BAI. The collected data from pre-test and post-test analyzed with independent test, analysis of covariance and U Mann Whitney.The results of Independent t test showed that there is significant difference between the mean of social adjustment (p < . ), family (p < . ), emotional (p < . ) and general adaptation (p < . ) after treatment. But there is no significant difference between the mean of two groups in job (p = . ) and physical adjustment (p= . ).The covariance analysis results showed significant differences between experimental and control groups after treatment in social (p < . ), emotional (p< ), family (p= . ),and general adjustment (p< . ); but no significance difference between two groups in physical adjustment (p= . ).The results showed training communication skills, increases social, family, emotional, and general adjustment in mothers with mentally retarded children. But the training is not effective in job and physical adjustment. The result of this study can be used for teaching parents exceptional children in school sبThe birth of child with mental retardation as a crisis can be effected on function and communication of family. Families can be well adjusted with crisis, who have effective communication stability and flexibility in playing their roles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of communication skills training on social adjustment of mothers with mentally retarded children in Ardebil.This study was experimental (pre-test and post -test design with control group). mothers having educable mentally retarded children were selected randomly from one exceptional primary school in Ardebil. through multistage randomly sampling.
