lObjective: This study was performed to investigate effective variables on function of the Patellar Tendon Bearing(PTB) brace in healthy adults.Materials & Methods: nine healthy male subjects were tested with Nove Dorsi flexion & 5 plantar flexion) and 1cm heel clearance, 4)PTB brace with free ankle (15 Dorsi flexion & 5 plantar flexion) and 2cm heel clearance, and 5)normal shoe (i.e., control).Contact area (CA) and Peak pressure (PP) underneath the foot in three regions(hindfoot, midfoot, forefoot) were collected.Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to evaluate significance, which was set at a level of p < 0.05 due to the Bonferroni Correction.Results: There was a significant reduction in peak pressure and contact area on hind and midfoot between four conditions of orthosis and normal shoe (P< 0.05),However no significant difference between four conditions of PTB orthosis was observed(P> 0.05).And there was a significant increase in peak pressure on forefoot between four conditions of orthosis and normal shoe (P< 0.05). There was maximum peak pressure of forefoot and maximum unloading plantar in fourth condition.Conclusion: in this study it was shown that pressure was increased in forefoot region and decreased in hindfoot region in four conditions of orthosis. Therefore,it can be concluded that the orthosis used in this study is effective for heel fractures and pain while another brace must be used for tibial fractures. Finally,in this study PTB brace with free ankle and 1cm heel clearance, was the best method for unloading and appropriate distribution of pressure in other areas of foot.Keyword: Lower extremity fractures/ PTB brace,orthosis/ Ankle position/ Plantar pressure 98 University of social welfare and rehabilitation science MSc Thesis Orthotics & Prosthetics Title
