SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
This study was aimed to investigate into the relations of gender role conflict with personality dimensions and facets in men, using seven factor model of personality. 250 male students from University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (USWR), and Tehran University (TU) were asked to complete an inventory including gender role conflict scale (GRCS), and the revised form of temperament and character inventory (TCI-R).Among these 250 participants, 190 completed the inventory, correctly. Most of these 190 students were unmarried, postgraduate and undergraduate students, with ages from 20 to 30 years old. According to the Pearson correlation coefficients and the results from comparison of personality dimensions between high gender role conflict men group (51male students) and low gender role conflict men group (51 male students) usingindependent samples t-test, it appears that gender role conflict has significant negative relations with novelty seeking, reward dependence, self-directedness, and cooperativeness;significant positive relation with harm avoidance, and significant correlations with most of the personality facets. Also, gender role conflict has significant negative correlations with 10 from 13 stages of character development, including trust in reality, self-respect,purposefulness, empathy, conscientiousness, resourcefulness, self-acceptance, compassion, authenticity, and integrity. The ultimate temperament-character-gender role conflict model about the interactions between temperament and character dimensions in development of masculine gender role conflict has been extracted by path analysis. According to the results of this study, it appears that some temperament characteristics such as low novelty seeking, high harm avoidance, low reward dependence, and high persistence, in interactions with gender role socialization, either in a direct manner or through interference withevelopment of character dimensions can make men susceptible for later gender role conflict. Also the immaturity of self-directedness and cooperativeness, along with the configuration of temperament dimensions in men with high gender role conflict illustrate the probability of more prevalence of personality disorder, specially obsessive-compulsive personality disorder among these men.Key Words: Character, Gender Role Conflict, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, Personality, Temperament
