Appraisal is a recent theoretical and analytical framework within SFL (Systemic Functional Linguistics) that tries to extend the interpersonal metafunction of SFL into interesting elaboration. Attitude, as one of the Appraisals three subsystems, deals with resources that writers/speakers use to express their feelings toward people and things or judge people's behavior. Since it is a newly evolved theory, it has been mostly studied theoretically and partial attention has been paid to practical application of this system. The present study has attempted to explore how individuals from different cultures, genders and fields of study exploit one subsystem of appraisal theory (Attitude) in written discourse of research articles and hopes to pave the way for prospective similar studies. The selected corpus for this research was the conclusion section of 80 RAs, written by native/ Iranian, male/ female academics from two disciplines of Applied Linguistics and Medical. The Appraisal framework, as developed by Martin and White (2005), was applied to the whole data to explore the impact of gender, nationality, and discipline on using attitudinal expressions in academic writing. It was found that Attitude was deployed in the expected order of Appreciation, Judgment, and Affect. In addition, MED articles utilize attitudes more than APL articles, however this is mostly in Appreciation form. Another result of the present study was that Iranian writers utilize more attitudinal resources compared with native ones except for Judgments which are used most frequently by natives. The final finding was that female and male writers of research articles apply attitudes in an almost similar frequency just Appreciation is used by female writers more than the males. These results may help to pave the way for prospective further researches in reaching a formalistic way to incorporate the framework of Appraisal system in the academic discourse.

کاربرد زبان در زمینه های اجتماعی یکی از حوزه های گسترده درعلم زبانشناسی کاربردی است .سیستم ارزیابی معنایی به عنوان یکی از گرایشهای این حوزه در سالهای اخیرمورد توجه بسیاری قرار گرفته است .دراین سیستم ارزیابی های نویسنده و یا گوینده نسبت به افراد ،اشیا وپدیده ها و یا احساس خود فرد نویسنده یا گوینده توصیف میشود .این سیستم متشکل از سه زیر- مجموعه معنایی " نگرش ،درجه بندی و تعامل " می باشد که در این تحقیق صرفا بخش نگرش در هشتاد مقاله تحقیقی وعلمی مورد بررسی قرارگرفت .مقالات به سه دسته زیر تقسیم شد.1 :پزشکی و زبانشناسی کاربردی.2 نویسندگان مرد و زن.3 نویسندگان انگلیسی زبان و ایرانی سه زیرمجموعه بخش نگرش شامل احساسات ،داوری و تقدیر )بر اساس سیستم ارزیابی معنایی مارتین و وایت ( در این سه دسته مقاله مورد بررسی قرار گرفت و نتایج حاصله نشان داد همانگونه که انتظار میرفت در تمامی مقالات میزان استفاده از زیرمجموعه تقدیر بیشترازدو زیرمجموعه دیگراست .درمقالات پزشکی بیش ازمقالات زبانشناسی اززیرمجموعه معنایی نگرش استفاده می شود.یکی دیگراز نتایج این مطالعه این بود که دربین نویسندگان ایرانی درمقایسه با نویسندگان انگلیسی زبان کاربرد منابع معنایی نگرش بیشترمی باشد با این استثنا که نویسندگان انگلیسی زبان زیرمجموعه داوری را بیشترمورد استفاده قرارمی دهند.و نتیجه اخراینکه میزان کاربرد منابع معنایی درنویسندگان زن و مرد تقریبا یکسان است بااین تفاوت که زنان بیش از مردان از زیرمجموعه تقدیراستفاده می کنند .هدف از این تحقیق برداشتن گامی کوچک جهت توصیف نحوه کاربرد عملی سیستم ارزیابی معنایی )زیرمجموعه نگرش ( در مقالات علمی و بررسی تفاوتهای استفاده ازان در بین نویسنده های مرد و زن ، انگلیسی زبان و ایرانی ، و رشته های پزشکی وزبانشناسی کاربردی می باشد .نتایج حاصل از این تحقیق میتواند به زبان اموزان در راستای درک بهتر سیستم ارزیابی معنایی و بکارگیری ان در نوشتن مقالات علمی کمک کند .مدرسان زبان انگلیسی نیز با استفاده از نتایج چنین تحقیقاتی میتوانند به زبان اموزان در جهت بهبود سیستم نوشتاری و بکارگیری منابع بین فردی کمک کنند
