fictional or fictional events. Besides, the word 'story' may be used as a synonym of 'narrative', but can also be used to refer to the sequence of events described in chronological order. On the other hand, an argumentative genre is a kind of controversial writing, which tries to verify, defend or support the subject that is proposed. It is a kind of writing whose main purpose is to persuade the reader to accept the writers belief or opinion. Hence, the terms argument and persuasion are applied interchangeably in much of research. The present study aimed to compare narrative and argumentative genres in terms of grammatical structures, lexical items, and genre features. This study is considered as a text analysis. Data were collected by studying several related books and 195 articles in terms of grammatical structures, lexical items, and genre features. Therefore, the features of narrative and argumentative genres were tabulated as well as descriptive statistics in detail. Data analysis demonstrated that in an argumentative genre, markers like however and secondly are the most frequently used markers, respectively .38 and .29 . On the other hand, findings revealed that in a narrative genre, markers like but and because are the most frequently used narative markers, respectively as .19 and .15 . Consequently, narration is the act of telling a sequence of events, often, but not always, in chronological order. On the other hand, an argumentative genre is considered as a kind of controversial writing, whose main function is try to persuade the reader to accept the writers belief or opinion. Furthermore, the following features of a good argumentation should be taken into consideration as claim, which persuades, argues, convinces, proves, or provokingly suggests something to a reader who may or may not initially agree with you. Besides, data or grounds is defined as the backing for the claim. Also, warrant is seen as the link between the claim and the grounds. Furthermore, backing is known as support for the warrant. In addition, modality or qualifieris described as the degree of certainty employed in offering the argument, and finally rebuttal could be considered as an argument in itself -Undoubtedly, the rudimentary role of writing and speaking skills could not be overlooked in the process of L2 learning, so the clarification and determination of these significant skills could be considered as a fundamental issue for both L2 learners and instructors. Consequently, the conception of genre has emerged. The word genre originates from the French (and originally Latin) word for 'kind' or 'class'. It is viewed as a group of communicative events realized by members of the same discourse community.
