Listening is an active process, and in order to understand the speakers meaning, the listeners should have sufficient background knowledge. One type of background knowledge which plays very important role in listening is cultural awareness. This study intended to investigate the effect of awareness raising activities on the listening comprehension of culturally-bound materials in L2 classrooms. In this research the following question was under consideration: Do awareness raising activities facilitate L2 learners' listening comprehension of culturally-bound materials?.
