Abstract: Algae, like other aquatic organisms, respond to the chemical composition in the aquatic environment, which in turn causes changes in their physiology, biochemistry, and morphology. Vermiculite is a collection of minerals, which is used in various industries. In this research, we used nano-sized vermiculite, which was achieved by physical methods and grinding with a mortar. The results showed that the nanocomposite prepared by the mentioned methods reduces the growth in different concentrations. Also, the increase in the amount of chlorophyll in the beginning and the auxiliary pigments and the decrease in the efficiency of photosystem II, although in a small way, proved the toxic effects of this nanoparticle Fe2O3. Its highest growth was in concentrations of 0.050 mg/L in the phytochemical sample and 0.250 mg/L in the nanoparticle chemical sample, which was still lower than the control sample. While no significant changes were seen in the photosynthetic systems and the amount of malondialdehyde and photosynthetic pigments did not show a significant different response to this nanoparticle and no relationship between these indicators and growth was observed. The amount of astaxanthin in the treatment with nanocomposite derivatives modified with iron oxide Fe2O3, no significant change in the amount of astaxanthin was observed. Our results did not show a significant difference between the control sample and its modified derivatives with iron oxide Fe2O3in the effect on the growth and phytochemical indices of the unicellular green algae Haematococcus pluvialis. Also, due to the lack of change or even reduction in the production of astaxanthin in algae, these nano compounds cannot be economically used in the production of this algae.
