بنا به تعریف جامعه‌شناسی، فرهنگ، مجموعه‌ی پیچیده‌ای است، که شامل علوم و دانش‌ها، اعتقادات، هنرها، افکار و عقاید، صنایع، تکنیک، اخلاق، قوانین و مقررات، سخن، عادات و رسوم و رفتار و ضوابطی است که انسان، آن را از جامعه فرا می‌گیرد و در قبال آن تعهداتی به عهده دارد .اجزای این مجموعه، به هم پیوسته است و بین آن‌ها انتظام خاصی وجود دارد، این انتظام که در همه مجموعه فرهنگ منعکس می‌شود را ص‌الگو فرهنگی (culture pattern) می‌نامند .الگوهای فرهنگی دربردارنده نقاط اشتراک افراد آن مجموعه و آشکار کننده تمایزات ایشان با دیگر گروه‌ها و جوامع انسانی می‌باشد .یکی از بهترین راه‌ها برای شناخت الگوهای گوناگون مرتبط با فرهنگ ایران سده (۱۹ م /۱۳ ق(، بررسی دیدگاه‌ها و نظرات سیاحانی است که به مثابه ناظر خارجی این الگوها را مشاهده و نقل کرده‌اند .البته باید توجه داشت که این سیاحان با توجه به نوع سفر یا مأموریت و مدت اقامت در کشور مقصد، نظراتی گوناگون و متفاوت ارائه کرده‌اند که شایسته است مورد نقد و بررسی علمی قرار گیرند .آن چه در این پژوهش مورد بررسی قرار می‌گیرد بررسی و مطالعه الگوهای فرهنگی ایرانیان به استناد سفرنامه نویسان غیرانگلیسی سده (۱۹ م /۱۳ ق (است تا بازشناسی آن‌ها به ارائه تصویری روشن و واقعی از وضعیت فرهنگی ایران آن زمان کمک نماید .شناختی که می‌تواند در تبیین عوامل توسعه‌نیافتگی تاریخی ایران و ارائه راه‌کارهای توسعه فراگیر آن به کار آید.
Text of Note
According to sociological definition, culture is a complicated set that includes, sciences, knowledge, beliefs, arts, thoughts, industries, techniques, morals, laws, rules, speeches, habits, customs, behavior and regulations that human being acquire from society and has an duty about it. The details of the cultural set are correlated and there is an especial uniformity among them. This uniformity which is reflected in all cultural sets is called "culture pattern". Cultural patterns have the common points of its members and shows their distinctions to the other human societies and groups. One of the best ways to understand the different patterns related to Iranian's culture in the 19 century (13 H.), is to survey tourists' ideas and point of view as a foreign viewer of these patterns who have watched and written it down. Of course it is necessary to note that these tourists have written different ideas depending to their type of travel or mission and the length of their residence in the destination country which needs a scientific criticism. In this research a survey and study of Iranian cultural pattern would be worked according to non-English itinerary writers in the 19 century (13 H.) and its recognition would give a bright and real image of Iranian's cultural situation in that period. The recognition can be used in explanation of the historical declination of Iran and hoping to give a solution to a stable development.
