SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
Two field experiments were carried out in Ramhormoz during two successive years to evaluate the effect of different irrigation treatments on growth and grain and oil yields of five sesame cultivars. Experiments were arranged as split plot based on RCB design in four replications, with the irrigation levels (I1, I2, I3 and I4: irrigation after 150, 200, 250 and 300 mm evaporation from class-A pan) in main plots and sesame cultivars (Yellow witte, TN238, TS3, Safiabadi and local cultivar of Ramhormoz) in subplots. The leaf chlorophyll content was decreased with increasing the severity of water deficit. TS3 and Yellow witte showed the highest reduction of leaf chlorophyll content with decreasing water supply. Leaf area index (LAI), dry matter accumulation (DMA), crop growth rate (CGR) and relative growth rate (RGR) were also decreased with decreasing water availability. These traits were higher for TS3 than those for other cultivars. Plant height, branches per plant and leaves per plant were declined with increasing irrigation intervals. Reduction in number of leaves per plant was more than other morphological traits. Decreasing water supply resulted in decreasing grain and biological yields. Grains per plant, but not 1000-grains weight, was significantly
