برنج یکی از مهمترین محصولات غلات است که به لحاظ اهمیت در کنار گندم و ذرت یکی از سه محصولی است که بشر از آن تغذیه میکند .تولید برنج اگر چه پس از گندم در مقام دوم قرار دارد ولی ۸۵ از کل تولید آن به مصرف تغذیه انسان میرسد در حالی که مصارف انسانی گندم و ذرت به ترتیب ۶۰ و ۵۵ میباشد .برنج در تنظیم الگوی مصرف خانوارها و همچنین در تأمین بخش اعظمی از کالری، پروتئین، چربی، مواد قندی و ویتامین مورد نیاز بدن نقش بسیار مهمی را به عهده دارد .بجز موارد مصرف آن در تهیه پلو، برای تهیه آش، شیر برنج و فرنی و غذای مکمل کودک نیز از آن استفاده میشود .همچنین در صنعت نیز از آن در تهیه نشاسته، الکل صنعتی و شیرینیپزی و قنادی استفاده فراوان میشود . مصرف سرانه آن در ایران۳۸ - ۴۰ کیلوگرم در سال میباشد .برنج بعد از گندم دومین محصول زراعی آبی و همچنین مهمترین محصول تابستانه استان خوزستان میباشد .بر اساس آمار موجود نزدیک به ۲/۸ از ۵۹۱۳۳۷ هکتار سطح زیر کشت گیاهان زراعی آبی و ۷/۱۰ از ۴۵۵۱۰۰ هکتار سطح زیر کشت سالیانهی غلات آبی استان خوزستان در سال ۱۳۸۱ به کشت برنج اختصاص داشته است

Rice is one of most important cereal products, together with wheat and maize mostly feed human-being. Although rice ranks second to wheat, 85 per cent of it has direct human consumption. This rate is 60 and 55 with respect to wheat and maize. Rice has a main place in human calorie, protein, oil, saccharine, and vitamins intakes and plays an important roles. Beyond its direct consumption in different foods and menus, it is used in kids' complements, in starch, alcohol, and confectionary industries. Its annual per head consumption in Iran is 38 to 40 kg.Rice is second to wheat in irrigated areas of Khozestan, and it occupies 8/2 of 591337 hectares of irrigated cultivated lands, and 10/7 of 455100 hectares of cultivated cereals in 2003. Suitable environment, that of sunlight, temperature, wide plains of land and affluent water has conferred Khozestan 53070 hectares of cultivated rice area with 196000 tons of paddy product with average yield of 3700 kg per hectare and with 2.6 fold of growth within 20 years. Thus, Khozestan is one of important rice producing provinces of Iran.Due to the growing trend in demand for this product caused by population, income and product utility rate growth, to respond to this demand growth there are two scenarios open to meet this demand. One is extensive, the other is to increase productivity rates. Main key factor in productivity rise, is that of labour, and in top of that is the mangers, whose productivity is closely related to their skill levels. In this research the role of managerial planning skills, including that of objective settings, cognition of opportunities and factors of production through pre-culturing establishment of resource matrix such as land, capital, workforce, machinery; foreseeing of climatic environment such as average rain rates, its time and local distribution; the relevant planning for transportation, costs, finance and credit sources, extension and vocational training possibilities; clarifications of real needs due to the set aims, with profit, productivity, speed, sustainability, methods of procurements, organization, stuffing, controlling and the conduct of the system, and the evaluation of overall system against the set objectives in due course of execution was all worked out in a research plan. In the execution stage of this plan, the field questioning of 35 rice manager- farmers of the determined region of Ahvaz- Shavoor and Ghobeir was carried out. Results show the close correlation between the farmers' levels of planning skills with their rice yields. Especially, the regression coefficients of planning skills at 0/02, training skills at 0/008, cultivated area at 0/02, farmers' age at 0/019 and financial commitments at 0/05 regressed with their yield levels are positively significant at 95 of confidence interval. Also the same holds true with respect to their income levels. Thus, solution arisen from this study for rice yield augmentation is the development of managerial planning skills of rice farmers, which would be the main functions of policy and national management systems, including that of national agricultural education and extension systems.
