Water infiltration of substrates that are built on permeable soils is one of the causes of instability in sub-structures. These instabilities are mainly due to the development of uplift pressure (lifting force), gradual internal erosion of the foundation material, or the occurrence of sand boiling phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the pressure applied to the dam's contact face as well as the exist hydraulic gradient at the bottom of these structures. Since the damage to the structure due to the pressure and seepage force is higher than other factors of structural damage, these factors should be considered as the most important part in the analysis and design of hydraulic structures. Damages caused because of uplift force and seepage in hydraulic structures is due to upstream and downstream water level differences. In this thesis, the effect of drainage pipe under the concrete gravity dams on the uplift pressure and exit hydraulic gradient was investigated. Also, the effect of drainage pipes number, drainage location and drainage diameter were investigated. For this purpose, a numerical model with finite element method was used and a gravity dam's foundation was simulated. The results showed that the presence of drainage pipe under the gravity dam reduced the uplift force and the exit hydraulic gradient. If there is a drainage pipe under the gravity dam, at one quarter of the width of the dam floor (0.25 L) and three quarters of the width of the dam floor (0.75 L) of the heel and at the depth of 0.26 D, respectively, we will have lowest uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient. The effect of drainage pipe depth on the uplift force was also investigated and it was observed that there was a decreasing trend and then an increasing trend. Also, the simultaneous installation of two drainage pipes, one quarter of the width of the dam (0.25 L), at the heel of the dam and at the depth of 0.26D The lowest uplift force, the simultaneous installation of drainage at three quarters of the floor width (L75). It has the lowest hydraulic gradient at 0.16 and 0.26 D depths, respectively, and one-second of the floor width (0.5 L) of the heels. It was also found that the best position for drainage pipes installation was that drainage pipes in these situations reduced 30-50 in case of one drainage and 41-67 in case of two drainage in dam volume. The weight studied and the increase of 2 to 3 times the coefficient of confidence against the inversion of the desired structure in both cases. It was also found that the choice of drainage pipe diameter had less effect on the lift force and the output hydraulic gradient and was subject to executive considerations. For validation, the numerical method used in this study was compared with the laboratory method of others and a good agreement was observed
