محمدرضا شاه پهلوی با توجه به عقب‌ماندگی کشور و برخی دلایل دیگر، دست به اقداماتی در راستای توسعه و نوسازی زیر عنوان انقلاب سفید) انقلاب شاه و ملت (زد که اصلاحات ارضی نخستین و مهم‌ترین اصل از اصول شش‌گانه آن بود که پیامدهای زیادی را برای جامعه ایران به وجود آورد و نظام اجتماعی ایران را دگرگون کرد، ازجمله این تحولات را می‌توان :الغای رژیم ارباب‌ورعیتی، فروپاشی طبقه ملاک در ایران، پیدایش بورژوازی کمپرادور، مهاجرت روستاییان به شهرها، ایجاد تعارض بین روحانیت و حکومت نام برد .این تحولات در نظام اجتماعی ایران دگرگونی‌های زیادی را به وجود آورد .اصلاحات ارضی به دو شیوه تأثیرگذار شد :یکی مستقیم و دیگری غیرمستقیم .تأثیر مستقیم آن در جامعه خود را زود نمایان کرد، همچون فروپاشی طبقه ملاک، تأثیر غیرمستقیم آن دیرهنگام و با پیشرفت مراحل اصلاحات ارضی و تحول جامعه خود را نمایان کرد، همچون، مهاجرت روستاییان و تعارض بین روحانیت و حکومت .درنهایت این تحولات به روند وقوع انقلاب اسلامی ایران کمک کرده و به آن سرعت بخشید
