SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
The purpose of this project was to explore in a narrative format the struggles and experiences as a Muslim immigrant while acculturating to the United States. Growing up in two very different cultures, battling immigration issues, and dealing with family struggles was noted in this narrative. Literature on immigration and acculturation was reviewed. The narrator relays the internal conflicts she experienced and her hopes of utilizing these experiences to gain a better understanding as a mental health practitioner. The narrator provided a detail account of life events which included a traumatic childhood, the disturbing journey into United States, and experiencing cultural conflict while trying to find a balance between both cultures. The writer also narrates her story with the hope to provide a helpful insight to social workers who might work with the Muslim population.
