While the study of the Arthurian legend has been done extensively in the past, there are some areas that have not been examined at all. This study provides a look into the life of Sir Thomas Malory of Newbold Revel, Warwickshire and the corresponding life of Lancelot within Malory's narrative Le Morte Darthur. The similarities between the two knights are examined and allows for a scholarly audience to see the connection between real-life knight and literary knight. Because of this connection, the case that Malory was inserting himself into the text as a fictional autobiography in the terms of justifying his name of the many crimes he was accused of. Understanding the life of the author of a text is important when it comes to understanding the text at a deeper level. The many wars and political ideology within Malory's text serve as a means of understanding the fifteenth century in a way that many modern scholars look over.
