This project evaluates three monuments on or near a university campus to determine the uses that monuments may provide at a university. First the Gutenberg bust at Johannes Gutenberg University serves as a useful image for promoting their identity that is affiliated with the legacy of the famous inventor. At Ludwig Maximilian University, the White Rose Memorial serves as an important representation of the university's history that is associated with the White Rose Resistance Movement. The Empty Library Memorial in Berlin presents questions about the university's role in commemoration efforts along with the challenges that Humboldt faces regarding the political issues involved with building monuments throughout a regime change. As this project focuses on these monument stories, it provides insight towards evaluating other university monuments.
