SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT

Text of Note
The leadership styles of religious leaders are therefore questionable as to whether they are in line with the 21st century paradigm shift of leadership styles characterized by career professional leaders. The problem addressed by this study is that the bias and existing paradigm shifts in the non-religious community can create challenges to true leadership within the religious community. The purpose of this comparative case study was to conduct a comparative analysis of leadership styles of religious leaders across denominational boundaries to determine characteristics of effective leaders and between religious and non-religious leaders. In addition, the study was to learn leadership style(s) of religious leaders identified by the literature as characteristic of career professionals. The study was limited to a total of 17 participants across the United States who were recruited through LinkedIn and Facebook. Participants were of 6 various religious denominations consisting of Apostolic, Baptist, Christian Community, Church of God in Christ, Pentecostal, and United Methodist. Due to participants location, interview questions were emailed to participants to complete and return. From interview responses, the most effective leadership styles referred to were authentic, ethical and servant leadership. The implications for religious leaders are that strategic decision-making is needed to make them effective in resolving conflicts within the church among members, to resolve family crises in marriages, and to plan effective ministries for church growth. Knowledge of these effective leadership styles will assist organizational leaders to adopt a more effective leadership style for their religious leaders that will promote individual and organizational growth in the future, such as providing mentors and coaches for novice leaders.
