SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
N NMR studies of the interaction of N cyanide ion with gold(I)thiomalate (Autm) and gold(I)thioglucose (Autg) have been carried out at pH* 7.40. The chemical shifts of the two N containing species usd\rm Au(C\spN)\sb2\sp-usd and RS-Au-CN (where RS = tm or tg were identified. From the broadened N NMR signals, approximate lifetimes of the RS-Au-CN species were calculated. Captopril (Hcap) with gold(I) forms a 1:1 crystalline complex Au(I)cap. The exchange reactions of thiomalate and cyanide with Au(I)cap have been studied using C NMR spectroscopy. Au(I)cap forms a very high molecular weight polymer. Thiomalate and CN both bind to Au(I)cap, however, as expected, CN binds more strongly. Both the cis and trans Au(I)cap isomers were observed upon the addition of CN to A(I)cap solution. The ligand scrambling reaction of usd\rm R\sb3PAuC\spNusd to form (R3P)2Au and usd\rm Au(C\spN)\sb2\sp-usd has been studied for R = Me, Et, i-Pr, and Ph. Two P NMR resonances were observed for usd\rm R\sb3PAuCNusd and usd\rm(R\sb3P)\sb2Au\sp+usd species. However, for the N NMR, apart from usd\rm Et\sb3PAuC\spN,usd where two resonances were detected, only one averaged resonances observed for usd\rm R\sb3PAuC\spNusd (R = Me, Ph).
