The purpose of the dissertation is to analyze the key developments that became determining factors in the decisions by the Indonesian Baptist Mission which radically shifted the missions philosophy and practices of the mission. The key developments are viewed in their historical setting. The decisions, set forth in a document entitled "A New Pattern of Work," were made during a strategy conference at the mission's annual meeting at Tretes, Indonesia, July 19-28, 1971. The study spans the first twenty years of the history of the Indonesian Baptist Mission, from 1951 to 1971, and depicts the missions philosophy and practices of the Indonesian Baptist Mission.
