SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT

Text of Note
Work-life balance is an idea or model to prioritize between career success and family lifestyle. A healthy work-life balance allows employees to feel more in control of their work life, which may lead to increased productivity and decreased absenteeism due to happier mood; thus, less work-related stress and turnover. Happier employees stay loyal and are motivated to perform their best. This qualitative phenomenological study focused on work life balance of 20 Iranian American working mothers who had migrated to the U.S. southeast region from Iran, and experienced burnout, stress, and unhappiness due to work-life imbalances associated with cultural expectations of their roles as mothers and wives and successful strategies they utilized to overcome those obstacles and thrive. The survey results revealed the chief influences affecting these women to move forward and stay focused and positive while creating a healthy work-life balance stem from their own motivation to succeed, mentorship, their company's positive leadership styles, and family support. Several participants gave higher priority to achieving work-life balance to help maintain their family structure. Remaining married enabled these women to work outside the home while receiving the support needed. The findings may assist women from diverse cultural backgrounds to seek support in achieving their personal and professional goals and creating and maintaining healthy work-life balance. This research promotes inclusion and teamwork among the entire workforce, which results in higher job satisfaction, motivation, and productivity that can contribute to a company's overall success.
