Text of Note
ʿArīb b. Saʿīd al-Kātib al-Qurṭubī (d. c. 370/980) was a polymath and courtier of the Umayyads of al-Andalus, from the reign of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III until the reign of Hishām II. He was a physician whose scientific interests and contributions extended to agronomy, botany, and astronomy. He was also known as a historian and a poet. The sources give several versions of his name, which may be reconstructed, according to A. C. López, as Abū l-Ḥasan (or Abū ʿAlī) ʿArīb b. Saʿīd (or Saʿd)
