Mīr ʿAbd al-Wāḥid Bilgrāmī (b. 915/1509-10, d. 1017/1608) was a Ṣūfī author born to a family of sayyid s (persons claiming descent from the Prophet) from Bilgrām, an intellectual centre in the district of Hardoī, in present-day Uttar Pradesh ( mīr is an abbreviated form of amīr , "noble"). There was a continuing rivalry between this family and the ʿUthmānī and Farshawrī shaykh s, who usually held the office of qāḍī of Bilgrām (as documented by royal farmān s of the period); this led to periodic displacements
