ʿAbd al-Jabbār b. Aḥmad al-Hamadhānī (c. 325-415/937-1024) was the leading theologian of the Bahshamī branch of the Basran Muʿtazila. His most important work is al-Mughnī fī abwāb al-tawḥīd wa-l-ʿadl , a twenty-volume work of which fourteen volumes have survived. This work is a systematic discussion of Muʿtazilī doctrine, in which he also presented the teachings of his Muʿtazilī masters and non-Muʿtazilī adversaries. This makes ʿAbd al-Jabbār an important source of information about the doctrine of the later Muʿtazila. 1.
