Abū ʿAbdallāh Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Khiḍr b. Hārūn al-Ghassānī (584-636/1188-1239), called Ibn ʿAskar , was a muftī and qāḍī of Málaga and the author of a biographical dictionary of important figures of that city. Ibn ʿAskar resided his entire life in Málaga, where his knowledge of fiqh made him the most prestigious muftī of the city. He served as a deputy judge, substituting for the qāḍī Abū ʿAbdallāh b. al-Ḥasan al-Bunnahī (d. 631/1233; Prosopografía , no. 8632) at a time when the amīr Muḥammad
