Rusūkh al-Dīn Ismāʿīl b. Aḥmad Bayramī Mevlevī Anqaravī (d. 1041/1631), also known as Ismāʿīl Dede, was a prominent theologian, Illuminationist philosopher, and Mevlevī Ṣūfī. His profound knowledge of the religious sciences and Ṣūfism earned him the sobriquet Rusūkhī ("well grounded in knowledge"), and for his celebrated commentary on Rūmī's (d. 672/1273) Mathnawī he was given the epithet Ḥaḍrat-i Shāriḥ ("the eminent commentator"). Ismāʿīl Dede was born in Ankara to a noble family associated with the Bayramī Ṣūfī order. After receiving his elementary education from his
