ʿAbdallāh al-Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (1936-2016) was an influential Saudi historian, secretary general of the King Faisal International Prize, and member of parliament of Saudi Arabia. He was born and grew up in ʿUnayza, a commercial and intellectual centre described by travellers as the "Paris of Najd" (Altorki and Cole; Maisel). He received his primary and secondary education there and in Mecca, an accomplishment still rare amongst his contemporaries in central Arabia.
