Shafīq al-Maʿlūf (d. 1976) was one of the most important poets of the Southern Mahjar (Arab immigrant writers in South America) . He was the son of the distinguished historian and man of letters ʿĪsā l-Maʿlūf (d. 1956), brother of fellow Mahjar poets Fawzī (d. 1930) and Riyāḍ (d. 1982), and nephew of Mīshāl al-Maʿlūf (d. 1943), who co-founded al-ʿUṣba al-Andalusiyya (The Andalusian League, a group of Arab authors living in Brazil). Born in Zaḥla, Lebanon, in 1905, Shafīq attended the city's al-Madrasa
