Muḥammad al-Faytūrī (1929-2015) was a distinguished Arab poet. He was born in Sudan to a Bedouin tribe with origins in Libya, his father a Ṣūfī shaykh . His poetry is infused with spirituality and mystic philosophy, a combination that makes his work unique among modern Arab poets. Al-Faytūrī moved to Egypt from Sudan at a young age, receiving his elementary and secondary education in a religious Islamic school in which he studied and memorised the Qurʾān.
