Ibrāhīm b. Muḥammad al-Bājūrī al-Shāfiʿī (1198-1276/1783-1860) was Shaykh al-Azhar from 1847 until his death. The son of a shaykh , he was born in the village of Bājūr (alternatively Bayjūr), in al-Manūfiyya province, Egypt. After studying the Qurʾān with his father he matriculated at al-Azhar University in 1797. Al-Bājūrī left Cairo during the French occupation (1798-1801) and after the French departure returned to al-Azhar, where he spent the rest of his life.
