Abū l-Muẓaffar Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Kūfanī a l-Abīwardī (c. 457-507/1064-1113) was an Arabic poet of panegyric and amatory verse, a genealogist, and a philologist. Born in Kūfan (sometimes wrongly read as "Kawfan"), a village near Abīward in Khurāsān, he traced his genealogy back to Umayya, eponym of the Umayyads, and used the nisba al-Muʿāwī, even though the Muʿāwiya in his ancestry is neither the founder of that dynasty nor (as is sometimes erroneously claimed) the second caliph of that name, but
