Abdul Rahman , usually known as "the Tunku ," or "the Prince," (1902-90) was the seventh son of the sultan of the Malay state of Kedah and his Thai wife. Abdul Rahman pursued his schooling in Kedah, Bangkok, and Cambridge (1922-5), where he acquired the reputation of being a playboy. He gained only a general degree but, after several more attempts, he qualified as a lawyer in London. He returned to Malaya at the outbreak of World War II.
