SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship and predictive power of acculturation factors for the psychometric characteristics of Iranian American adults. Specifically, this empirical investigation was concerned with the predictive power of the acculturation factors of assimilation, integration, separation and marginalization on depression, anxiety, stress, and panic disorders among Iranian American adults. A Causal-Comparative Design was utilized in the current study. One hundred and two (102) Iranian American adults associated with a cultural organization in a large metropolitan area in the Southern region of the United States participated in this study. Three instruments entitled the Panic Disorder Severity Scale-Self Report (PDSS-SR), the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) 42 and the Iranian Cultural Life Styles Inventory (ICLSI) were used by the researcher to gather the data. In addition, a demographic questionnaire and consent form were used to gather the data. The acculturation factors were found not to have a relationship or a predictable relationship with the degree of depression, anxiety, stress, and panic disorder among Iranian American adults. Furthermore, the acculturation factors of integration and separation found to be the independent predictors of panic disorder among Iranian American adults. It is recommended that follow up studies should be conducted to examine the differences and similarities of the cultural and social factors' impact on the acculturation modes of Iranian American adults. It is also recommended that counselors to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when treating Iranian American adults.
