SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
"In 1965, "the rest" accounted for less than one-twentieth of the world manufacturing output. By 1995, they produced nearly one-fifth of world output. This book explains the economic policies that allowed for this rapid growth "The rest" comprises primarily at China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Turkey. Amsden shows that their economic growth was driven by industrialization that was fostered by national policies, and it occurred without the countries' possessing proprietary innovations of their own. Rather, the countries relied on a process of pure learning from advanced countries to establish their modern industries. In this transition the countries moved from economies with assets based on primary products to assets based on knowledge." (Pub. Web page).
