SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT

Text of Note
"This is a reappraisal of Schelling's philosophy and his relation to German Idealism. It reveals the radical Schelling, whose philosophy is far from the monochrome 'night where all the cows are black' claimed by Hegel. Concentrating on demonstrating the diversity and range of Schelling's work, Goudeli presents an intriguing blend of German Idealism with ancient cosmologies and gnosticism. The author illuminates subtle aspects of Kant's and Fichte's philosophies, which are readdressed in the light of their relationship to Schelling. From the Kantian Tribunal of Reason to cosmic riddles and ancient rituals, the book charts a fascinating account of the journey of modern philosophy, arguing that it reflects back on itself and its supposed 'other', mythology. Schelling's philosophy thus emerges as a dynamic and recalcitrant thought, which resists Hegelian and Heideggerian appropriations."--BOOK JACKET.
