SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
This thesis examines the role that Ayatollah Khomeini played in the transition to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the aftermath of the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Through an examination of Khomeini's public speeches and declarations throughout 1979, this thesis seeks to understand the actions Khomeini took to consolidate clerical power and implement his religious and political philosophy known as Velayat-e Faqih. Additionally, this work discusses the methods Khomeini used to counteract attempts to oppose his efforts at clerical power consolidation and the implementation of Velayat-e Faqih.
